8 April 2011

Large amounts of unlicensed medicines have been seized by Department of Health authorities during a search of a home in Glengormley.

A male was spoken with by department officers about unlawfully importing and subsequently providing unlicensed impotence through the web.

The 47-year-old was also questioned about other medicine offences.

He will now be the topic of a report to the Public Prosecution Service.

The search was brought out by the department's Medicines Regulatory Group.

Its senior enforcement workplace, Peter Moore, said: "It is crucial that we get the message throughout that unlicensed medicines can be harmful.

"These types of items being sold, usually online, have undergone no quality control and there can be no guarantee about their security.

"You merely do not know what you are taking or the conditions these items were made in. More notably, you do not understand the result drugs like this may have on your health."
